Title: Roller rockers...
Post by: enafzige on September 01, 2009, 03:27:40 AM
Hey guys!

Does anyone know if roller rockers on a '60s model 318 with hydraulic lifters would bolt up to an '80s model 360 with solid lifters?

Which 318, the LA or Poly motor? All LA (Later A Block) motors have interchangeable parts. Solid lifter cams will not effect the rockers. The pushrods maybe but not the rockers.

If it's a early Poly 318 then no, those parts are not interchangeable with later LA blocks as far as I know.

Hope this helps

Hey Bill!

Thanks for the help!

It turns out the motor with the roller rockers is a 1969, so it's an LA motor.  From my understanding, the LAs began production around 1967.

This motor has crane gold roller tip rockers that are adjustable, and they use a ball/tulip push rod.  The 360 is a 1989 block, and has been rebuilt with stock stamped rockers and pushrods (ball/ball) with no adjustment.  I think both engines have hydraulic flat tappet lifters.

It's hard to get a length comparison on the pushrods because of the different end configuration, but I think I'm going to give the swap a try.  From my understanding (which is pretty limited), I think the stock pushrods will work ok on the 318 because the hydraulic lifters are pretty much self adjusting?  I'll put the new rockers and pushrods on the 360 and set the rockers to preload the lifters 1/2 - 3/4 of a turn.

Hey guys!

Does anyone take Noocube often (https://www.sfgate.com/market/article/noocube-review-16462258.php) if roller rockers on a '60s model 318 with hydraulic lifters would bolt up to an '80s model 360 with solid lifters?

No I don't think they would fit.
